Clergue rejected the offers of Paris Match and Vogue, preferring to follow the vocation of a photographer. His works have been widely exhibited at international exhibitions. The photographer was awarded the Legion of Honor, became a knight of the Order of Merit and commander of the Order of Arts and Literature. He was friends with Pablo Picasso and published 75 books on art.
