Beaches on the island of Crete in Greece

The coast is covered with an amazing cedar forest, which creates a unique microclimate, and you can get to the beach itself by wading through about a hundred meters of shallow water. The place is very well suited for snorkeling, as the bottom is covered with stones and the sea water is very clear. You can swim on this beach even during a storm, the water near the shore still remains calm and safe. After a busy beach day, curious tourists will be interested to explore the local ancient castle and visit a colorful restaurant of Mediterranean cuisine.

Many comfortable hotels occupy the territory of the beaches or are located across the street from them in the city of Rethymno, the villages of Platanias, Paleochora, Stavros, Agia Marina, Malia, Makriyalos, Orsi Amos, Falasarna, Tersanos, Georgioupoli, Agia Apostoli, Pahia Amos.

Matala Beach is framed from the shore by a high cliff, descending to the sea with multi-tiered terraces. The eastern part of Plakias Beach is a favorite vacation spot for nudists and naturists. Vai Beach, which can be easily reached by car from the city of Agios Nikolaos or by bus from the village of Sitia, became famous thanks to the filming of the Bounty chocolate advertising. The paradise is decorated with a natural palm grove and creates a unique atmosphere of privacy. However, there is parking near the beach, and the beach itself has all the necessary equipment for convenience and comfort.

Lovers of wild beaches will love Balos. The lagoon is famous for its rich palette of water shades, because it is here that the Aegean, Libyan and Ionian Seas merge together.
