Petrov-Vodkin and the origins of Russian Nudism
One of the first Russian artists who began to pay close attention to the naked male nature was Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin. The master believed that male expressiveness dominates over female, so he often painted naked young men and boys. Petrov-Vodkin preferred men who had reached a transitional age. Often his canvases became scandalous, as happened with the painting "Dream", depicting two girls looking longingly at a sleeping naked man.
