Bugdoy Peninsula in Oslo
The Bügdøy Peninsula is located in the western part of Oslo. Even at the time of the first settlers on the territory of the city, this part of the land was an island, but when the water receded, a narrow isthmus was formed that connected it with the mainland. But the museums attract the most attention of tourists, because of their number, Byugda is often called the "museum peninsula".
There are museums here, most of which are devoted to the historically main industry of Norway-shipping. Here you can get acquainted with the history of the expeditions of Thor Heyerdahl (1914-2002) and Roald Amundsen (1872-1928), ancient Viking burial boats. The Norwegian Museum of Cultural History deserves special attention - a whole city block, which houses buildings - houses, churches, inside which you can see collections of art, culture and everyday life of Norwegians.
In the warm season, a small steamer runs to the peninsula from Pier No. 3: within 15 minutes it will take you to the place. You can also get to Byugda by bus from the Central Station and the National Theater - in winter this is the only way to get to the mainland and back.
The territory of the peninsula impresses with beautiful views of the surrounding rocks, pine forests and sandy beaches. The beaches of Byugdoy are considered the most popular in the city, there is also a city recreation area for nudists.
