Cannes-naturists move to St. Margaret's Island

The French resort of Cannes is known not only for the famous film festival, but also for its luxurious beaches stretching along the Bay of Angels (Mediterranean Sea) for 7,500 meters. All Cannes beaches are sandy, narrow and quite crowded. Crowding led to a close neighborhood of nudists and "textile workers", which negatively affected the former.

Relatively recently, a topless vacation without a swimsuit top was allowed in France. Times have changed. The city authorities have issued a decree prohibiting nudism along the entire length of the Mediterranean coast. Iris Perben, a representative of the municipality, reminded fans of even tanning that public nudity is now prohibited within Cannes. Violators will be fined. So far, the amount of the fine is symbolic - 11 euros. It is possible, however, that this figure will increase over time.

From now on, the only place (a kind of reservation) where nudists can walk naked is St. Margaret's Island. This small piece of land is located opposite the seaport. Naturism supporters arriving in Cannes are now forced to move there.

What is the reason for such an unexpected decision? It turns out that complaints about naked tourists began to come from yacht owners - wealthy people who care about moral foundations. The general claims of the yachtsmen were voiced by Jean-Claude Montezinos, the commodore of the local yacht club.

From now on, those who like to sunbathe and swim without clothes outside the island designated for this purpose will be arrested, taken to the police station and fined there.

It should be noted that the resolution affects not only municipal, but also private beaches, many of which are adjacent to the territory of elite hotels. So living in a closed boarding house will not protect you from the encroachments of the police. You'll have to pay. Or go to the island.
